Evaluation Question 1
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
To begin with I’ll start with my digipak, most of the ideas I had used on both my draft and final piece I had used or developed, starting with my title/logo famous to my artist-Travis. The initial idea was used from Supreme’s red box with basic bold/italic white font logo, I had researched I then simply used and adapted to my artist.
Most of my images on my digipak draft were famous celebrities who were already famous in the music industry and therefore I had just used images of them. Even my font cover for my digipak was a developed pose of Kid Cudi and my advert was a developed form of Kanye West’s ‘Monster’ artwork.
The colours I decided to use insisted of Black, red and white, my research shows that these were very common and popular combination of colours to use on digipaks and adverts, especially with the red being used on the fonts. After researching digipaks and adverts I liked and I was insistent on using these colours also.
I decided to use a black and white image on my digipak, this helped me link it all together as it matched not only the colour scheme but the black and white imagery had been used on a number of occasions by other artists for example, Jay-Z’s Rocawear advert with coloured font gave it a nice finish.
I spent hours and hours on researching and planning for both my digipak and advert as well as researching for my video. This helped me come to the conclusion that for my final video I was going to use the theme of the official Chris Brown video, Beautiful People but develop it to my own taste, his original theme of filming and recording ‘everyday/real life’ I tried to stick to, all though I found this quite hard and tricky to do I feel I have adapted it and produced a video that I am proud off. I wanted it to be similar to the official video in the sense that they are enjoying life and showing how happy every should be and that they should feel beautiful, I realised that he managed to do this by showing them laughing, smiling, dancing and singing, for that reason I decided that I was also going to make this a common theme to my video, using his idea.
Looking back on my work it is obvious that I have been very influenced by a few artists and collaborations, Kid Cudi, Kanye West and Jay-Z to name a couple. I found their work to be unique and inspiring hence why I have so much about these certain artists. I saw these to be almost in a league of their own and that is what made me want to use and develop their work to also put me into a top standard of work again showing that I have used and developed forms of real life media products made by experienced geniuses within the music industry.
Feedback in my draft work for my video gave me a good idea to use more images and shots of drinking and pouring shots, almost like a collage, I decided to film more of these and decided to use the idea to put them all together, this gave it more of a ‘pre-drinking/fun’ feel to the video.
